HECTOR ACEVEDO

Hector serves as Community Outreach Administrator for the Job Connector by MIT where he builds on his previous roles at the intersection of community and technology. Specifically, Hector honed his customer service expertise as an Apple Store Specialist and his outreach & engagement skills as the Manager of the Find It Cambridge website. Find It Cambridge provides online access to activities, services, and resources around Cambridge, Massachusetts, a city Hector has loved since he emigrated from El Salvador at age six.

Hector attended Hamilton College on a Posse Scholarship graduating in 2008 with a BA in Women’s Studies with a minor in Hispanic Studies. He founded the Hamilton College site for the Young People’s Project (YPP) which encourages youth civic engagement while teaching mathematics skills to local students from Utica, New York. Hector has served on the boards of the Posse Foundation, Cambridge Camping, Cambridge Economic Opportunity Council, and the Cambridge Homes. He brings his many years of professional community building experience to strengthening the Peake Fellowship.

Julia Torra

Growing up in Somerville Massachusetts, Julia has always had a fondness for supporting local businesses. When she was as young as 14 with a local flower farmer and later at farmer’s markets, selling food from a great local restaurant – Flora Restaurant. In 2018, Julia graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in Psychological Science. Her passion for human behavior and years of experience in retail management at Gap Inc. contribute to her insights and continual improvement of coaching for the Peake Fellowship and Peake Fellowship Development Team at Venly.

ELIAS TREUER

Born in Bemidji, Minnesota and enrolled in the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, Elias had a unique
childhood. Growing up in and around reservations led Elias to different perspectives on life. He
grew up in a rich Ojibwe environment that directly translates to his strong work-ethic and
intense energy to help others.

Elias founded an apparel business called Real Nish during fourth grade to promote indigenous pride and cultural awareness. (Nish is short for Anishinabe which means the people in Ojibwe.) Elias later converted Real Nish into an online apparel store with personalized graphic designs during COVID. During his free time, Elias also is working on app development for a future startup.

Elias is a current undergraduate at Dartmouth College. Based on his burning desire to learn and an insatiable curiosity, Elias sees the Peake Fellowship as an opportunity to use his time to support community businesses.

Dr. Michael Wertheimer

Dr. Michael Wertheimer serves as the Cybersecure Collaboration Lead for Venly & its Peake Fellowship Development Team based on his career at the forefront of managing risk and national security. Dr. Wertheimer served as Managing Director of Cyber Security Strategy at Morgan Stanley and led all facets of the firm’s technology and information risk strategic portfolio. He was the chief architect of the firm’s defense-in-depth network architecture and led a small team of world-class cyber professionals responsible for threat hunting and adversarial pursuit.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Wertheimer shares Venly’s and the Peake Fellowship’s passion for helping local businesses grow, create jobs, and strengthen each community served. His unique background helps community ecosystems by geography, industry, and demographics develop distributed strategies for the collective cyber defense of their members.

Before Morgan Stanley, Dr. Wertheimer served 26 years as a National Security Agency cryptologist, senior technical leader, and senior executive leader. As NSA Director of Research, he contributed to breakthroughs in mathematics, engineering, and computer science. In this role, he led over 500 civilian scientists in the advancement of cryptology, cybersecurity, trusted systems, big data processing, threat analysis, and high-performance computing.

Dr. Wertheimer was an inaugural member of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. He served as ODNI Assistant Deputy Director for Analysis and Chief Technology Officer, overseeing Intelligence Community efforts to bring increased depth and accuracy to analysis. He launched A-Space, a Time Magazine Best Invention of 2008, and the Library of National Intelligence.

Throughout his career, Dr. Wertheimer has pioneered applied learning initiatives and he served as a Professor of Practice in the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Dr. Wertheimer is the recipient of many awards for public service, including a Presidential Rank Award, the Exceptional Civilian Service Award, and the Director’s Distinguished Medal. He received a BA Magna cum Laude in Mathematics and Philosophy from the University of Rochester and his MA and PhD in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania where he studied on an NSA graduate fellowship.

Beverly Ortega Babers

Beverly Ortega Babers brings to the Peake Fellowship her distinguished experience in public service, a personal background growing up in a military family, and a commitment to strengthening communities through higher education. After three decades of nationwide public sector leadership roles, Bev is currently the domestic policy lead at MITRE’s Center for Data-Driven Policy.

Bev previously served as the deputy assistant secretary for management and budget at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. In that position, she oversaw the formulation and execution of the department’s $14 billion budget, as well as its strategic planning and organizational performance management programs. As the most senior (non-political) executive in the management office, she was the principal deputy for all administrative functions and transition director for the 2016 Presidential election. Babers previously served as the Chief Administrative Officer for the U.S. Mint, Chief Administrative Officer & Performance Improvement Officer for the U.S. Department of Education, Chief Human Capital Officer and Chief of Staff for the IRS, Corporate Ombudsman for the American Red Cross after Hurricane Katrina, and Chief of Staff and Trial Attorney for the Department of Justice Tax Division. Bev began her career as an Associate Attorney for the global law firm Jones Day after earning a bachelor’s degree from Haverford College and a law degree from the University of California at Berkeley.

Personally, Bev relates to the Peake Fellowship’s focus on military veterans and their spouses. Her mother, following graduation from then Morgan State College, became the first African American woman to receive a direct commission into the Air Force as an officer. Bev’s father, after emigrating from Cuba to the US, rose through the enlisted ranks to became an Air Force Chief Master Sergeant. As a student at a base high school in Germany, Bev met her future husband, Alonzo Babers, who went on to be an Air Force pilot after attending the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Bev’s own experience with higher ed included enrolling in the first co-ed freshman class at previously all-male Haverford College. She served four years as captain of the College’s first women’s basketball team and was the first female president of the student government. In June 2022, Bev starts a two-year term as President of the Haverford College Alumni Association.

Tyler Holloway ’23

Tyler served as Joint Innovation Coordinator after her one-year Peake Fellowship supporting small business upskilling across Cybersecurity, Outreach & Engagement, Community Commerce, and Cloud Operations best practices. She became Peake Fellowship Operations Manager leading Fellows and Community Navigators in their support of small business cybersecure growth across the U.S. critical infrastructure sectors.

Originally from Stone Mountain, Georgia, Tyler’s passion for entrepreneurship goes as far back as she can remember. As a student at Savannah State University, Tyler co-founded TigerCo Marketing, an initiative that took an inventor’s hot sauce to market with local stores. All of the company’s profits contributed to a micro-loan program for other students at Savannah State. The overall TigerCo initiative, which was highlighted on the cover of Founder Magazine, has become a blueprint for rallying community support and joint innovation. As part of her service learning, Tyler also co-created an online marketplace for goods from student entrepreneurs across the campus. Beyond her interest in community commerce, Tyler also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and received a Coca-Cola United Bottling Company Internship & Scholarship. Tyler is a graduate of Savannah State University where she earned a Bachelors in Business Administration in 2020 and an MBA in 2022. In 2024, Tyler received her Masters in Cyberpsychology at Norfolk State University.

Gary Evee

Gary Evee, is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Evee Security Consulting Group. Evee Security’s mission is to enable businesses to reduce risk by proactively developing a more secure and resilient cybersecurity environment.

Gary previously held a range of leadership roles during his 22 years at IBM across business development and operations. In his most recent role, Gary lead go-to-market strategy for IBM’s mobile and financial services cybersecurity solutions. Gary has a proven track record of managing and scaling new enterprises. He has served as a technology and cybersecurity advisor to a number of Higher Education institutions including Cambridge College, which specializes in applied learning for students that miss the 18-22 year old undergraduate window; and Johnson C. Smith University, a 154-year-old Historically Black College/University in Charlotte, NC. Gary holds a BA in Political Science from Hampton University. Gary’s expertise in collaboration across academia, industry, and government strengthens students’ career experiences and the cybersecure growth of Anchor Communities.

Bryan Chiakpo

Bryan has spent four years at Accenture on the leading edge of applied data analytics. His work has improved the performance of individuals and organizations across multiple industries and ecosystems as a Data Engineering and Analytics Consultant. He also is an Amazon Web Services certified cloud practitioner. Prior to Accenture, Bryan served on the original development team that helped to launch the Mary S. Peake Fellowship. His work focused on analytics to help local businesses grow and strengthen the communities served. Bryan went on to research positions for leading Boston University and Harvard University teaching hospitals. Specifically, Bryan’s projects ranged from better understanding of bone cancer with computer tomography (CT) imaging to understanding and reforming the discharge process for hospital patients. Bryan earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering with a Concentration in Technology Innovation from Boston University. Bryan’s understanding of technology, products, services, and data reinforce the impact he makes for ecosystem members across market categories, geographies, and demographics.

Andre Kelly

Andre is an analytical, results-driven product manager with a proven record in design, strategy, and product delivery for each community he serves. A longtime active member and leader of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Andre has the interpersonal skills to convey complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Andre served as a product manager at Google for cloud offerings before taking on a Google Lead Product Manager role. He began his career at a leading semiconductor company, LSI after graduation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a BS in Electrical Engineering. Andre went on to earn an MBA from the University of Massachusetts. His combination of systems perspective and passion for economic empowerment will drive the career success and cybersecure growth of each Anchor Community partner.
