DR. MEL CURRIE

Dr. Mel Currie serves as a Cybersecure Growth Coach to the Peake Fellowship based on his unique background of innovation locally, nationally, and internationally. Growing up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania he witnessed the powerful impact when a community engages and supports its sparks of creativity. Dr. went on to serve as president of his local community association near Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Currie began his career as an economic analyst with Gulf Oil before teaching high school and college math in Düsseldorf, Germany, Auburn University, and University of Richmond. He went on to serve in various roles at the National Security Agency (NSA) including Chief of the Cryptographic Research and Design Division. Dr. Currie was elevated to Defense Intelligence Senior Level and received the NSA Director’s Distinguished Service Medal prior to retirement.

Dr. Currie received a BA in Mathematics and Economics from Yale University and an MS and PhD in Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh. His published works include a popular math book, Mathematics: Rhyme and Reason, and a novel, Just Before Too Late.

Sonny Delfyette

Sonny Delfyette brings decades of broadcasting expertise to the nationwide upskilling of local businesses with the Peake Fellows and the i-HELP (Higher ed Enterprise Leadership Program) Community Navigators. Sonny currently hosts afternoon programming for KCBI, a faith-based radio station in Dallas-Fort Worth. His career spans both faith-based and secular radio where he co-hosted the Mo’Nique Show in 2008 with Oscar-winning actress, Mo’Nique Hicks.

Sonny has served communities across the U.S. including Los Angeles, Kansas City, Detroit, West Palm Beach, Virginia Beach, Baltimore, and New York State. He began his career on two of his hometown radio stations in Wheeling, West Virginia. In each region, Sonny has developed his distinctive approach to outreach and engagement based on listening as the foundation for strong communities and collaboration.

DR. TIM GLEASON

Dr. Gleason brings more than three decades of experience in diagnostic radiology and Naval service as a healthcare practitioner and teacher to his role with the Mary S. Peake Fellowship. In addition to his current role as a radiologist in private practice in the Seattle, WA area, Dr. Gleason served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Washington. While serving in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Gleason did his internship and residency at the Naval Medical Centers in Portsmouth, Virginia and San Diego, California. He then served as a radiologist at Naval Hospital Bremerton in the Puget Sound.

Now a resident of Bainbridge Island, Washington, Dr. Gleason grew up in Rochester, New York and earned an MD from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and a BA in Chemistry from Haverford College. His experience supports the Peake Fellowship’s role in catalyzing civilian and Defense Industrial Base innovation within the bounds of data privacy for community health resources.

EVAN ALBERS ’24

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Evan graduated in 2023 with a BA in Computer Science and Philosophy, and a minor in Economics and Finance from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. He completed Honors Projects in both Computer Science and Philosophy and also worked on an agent-based model of asset markets for his computer science professor, Dr. Mohammad Irfan. Evan developed a passion for innovative market exchanges of products and services that could be used by small businesses across industries starting with the U.S. Defense Industrial Base (DIB).

Evan’s personal interest in Community Commerce Hubs for Innovation grew as he watched his grandfather, a retired precision machinist, and a team of volunteer experts rebuild a World War II-era Boeing B-17 based on salvaged parts. As Evan supports small businesses to benefit from AI and big data-based tools, he will rely on skills he honed in his campus job as a Learning Assistant helping fellow students grasp new concepts and overcome coding challenges. Evan also draws on teamwork and mutual mentoring skills developed in two non-academic focuses: first as a Heavyweight Rower with Bowdoin Rowing where he helped the team achieve its first national championship; and second as founder of the Bowdoin Polar Investment Club which taught the basics of personal finance and became one of the College’s most active organizations.

Dr. Melissa McCoy

Dr. McCoy brings more than two decades of experience in higher education and industry partnerships to her role with the Mary S. Peake Fellowship. he co-developed the Peake Fellowship’s Higher Ed Enterprise Leadership Program called i-HELP which is now rolling out with support from the U.S. Commerce Department. She currently serves as leader of the Tougaloo College partnership with Brown University which is celebrating its 60th year. She also serves as Tougaloo College’s Director of Career Readiness, Innovative Leadership-Quality Enhancement Plan, and Faculty Development. In previous Tougaloo roles she led the College’s internship programs.

Prior to Tougaloo, Dr. McCoy served as Academic Dean for the parent of the New England Business College (NEBC). NEBC now forms the online education program of Cambridge College, a national leader in non-profit adult learning. Previous roles also included Doctoral Mentor and Adjunct Professor for Online Programs at Capella University, Professor of Psychology for Strayer University, and Graduation Coach for Hinds Community College.

Dr. McCoy earned a PhD in Urban Higher Education at Jackson State University, an MS in Counseling Psychology from the University of West Alabama, and a BA in English and Journalism from the University of Alabama.

Tiffany Duffy

CDR Tiffany Duffy (Ret.) completed her U.S. Coast Guard career developing a comprehensive and uniform approach to environmental regulatory requirements for maritime operations in U.S. waters. She is currently a Senior Director of Operations at CSX, an approximately $15 billion railroad industry leader. She leads efforts in the safe movement of 1,848 trains and more than 3.5 million carloads of products and raw materials a year.

Tiffany Duffy began her 24 years of Coast Guard service after a neighbor suggested that she join. She graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with a BS in Marine Environmental Science before entering the maritime transportation domain as a federal government regulator on foreign and domestic vessels. She earned an MS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Southern California, CMD Duffy applied her learning to her work on multilateral missions and treaties which neutralize chemical weapons, reduce air emissions, cut greenhouse gasses , and reach carbon neutrality. Throughout her career CDR Duffy has benefited from mentors and offered coaching whenever possible, and continues that role for the Peake Fellows.

VICE ADMIRAL
DEE MEWBOURNE (RET.)

VADM Dee Mewbourne (retired) as Deputy Commander of the United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), the DoD’s Single Distribution Process Owner across air, land, and sea. USTRANSCOM expanded its efforts into space logistics through reusable rockets with SpaceX under VADM Mewbourne’s leadership. In his service under USTRANSCOM Commander, General Steve Lyons, he helped support the 2021 Afghanistan evacuation, the largest non-combatant evacuation airlift in U.S history. Under the next USTRANSCOM Commander, General Jackie Van Ovost, he helped coordinate the rapid delivery of U.S. aid to the people of Ukraine following the Russian 2022 invasion.

VADM Mewbourne’s experience has ranged from serving as Chief of Staff for U.S. Navy Cyber Forces to his role as the U.S. Navy’s Grey Owl which recognized him as the longest serving naval flight officer at the time of his retirement in July, 2022.

Prior to USTRANSCOM, VADM Mewbourne served as commanding officer of three nuclear aircraft carriers: USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, the USS Enterprise, the USS Harry S. Truman. He then commanded the Military Sealift Command which is responsible for private sector partnerships and the military hospital ships including the USNS Comfort and USNS Mercy.

VADM Mewbourne graduated from the United States Naval Academy, received an MBA from Colorado State University, and earned a doctorate in education from Vanderbilt University. He is also an honors graduate of the United States Naval Test Pilot School and completed the navy’s Nuclear Power Program, Air Command and Staff College (ACSC), and Joint Forces Staff College.

As an educational program leader, VADM Mewbourne commanded the Naval Service Training Command (NSTC), responsible for training of enlisted sailors, ROTC, and officers. Now the Peake Development Team and Venly rely on VADM Mewbourne’s unique insights to help guide upskilling with the Peake Fellowship and ecosystem member innovation for DoD-aligned, Community-led Cyber Defense.

Larson Ashford ’24

In 2024, Larson completed his one-year Peake Fellowship after successfully supporting small business upskilling across Outreach & Engagement, Community Commerce, Operations, and Cybersecurity best practices. He went on to serve as a Peake Fellowship Joint Innovation Coordinator coaching Fellows and Community Navigators in their support of small business cybersecure growth across the U.S. critical infrastructure sectors.

Born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, Larson grew up inspired by entrepreneurs in his family. Larson’s father founded a local tea shop specializing in imported blends that cultivated Larson’s own passion for small business and logistics. The shop gave Larson a chance to help his dad innovate every day across all parts of the operation where he also assumed the role of Ashford Tea Company’s Social Media Manager.

Larson went on to study logistics at Savannah State University as a student athlete. College honed his ability to multitask as a President’s Academic List student and Co-Captain of the Men’s Basketball Team. Larson was recognized for his role in boosting Savannah State’s enrollment with a 1st Place Marketing Group Project Award, and his Savannah State Tigers became the Men’s Basketball SIAC Conference Champion.

Professionally, Larson served as a Communications & Clinical Outreach Linkages Manager for the city’s Healthy Savannah project.

Larson earned a Bachelor’s in International Business and Logistics graduating Magna Cum Laude from Savannah State University in 2021 and earned a Savannah State Master’s in Business in 2023. Larson views his Peake Fellowship role as a way to strengthen community business ecosystems by geography and industry at the same time that he strengthens his data analytics and cybersecure supply chain leadership skills.

FRANKIE SMITH II

Frankie Smith is a business innovator building on 7 years of roles in finance & accounting. He sees his strongest skill as bringing together a range of people and ideas to solve problems that matter. After working for a publicly traded retailer while earning his MBA and undergraduate business degrees, he is beginning a career in consulting across industries with Grant Thornton in the CFO Advisory Practice.

In addition to using his experience to mentor others, Frankie has actively benefitted from mentorship through his career. In 2022, Frankie was selected for the Thurgood Marshall Leadership Institute where he received coaching from subject matter experts across multiple industries. Frankie earned both a Bachelor and a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Accounting from Savannah State University. For the Peake Fellowship, Frankie has a passion for coaching Fellows who want to create new business models for the future.

PAMELYN G. LINDSEY

Pam Lindsey brings to the Peake Fellows a passion for coaching along with a distinguished career in both supply chain management and applied learning innovation. Pam is a Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) and a regular speaker at international industry conferences/STEM programs. Pam is an experienced professional across integrated business planning, Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP), and supply chain management.

Pam is President and Co-Founder of L4 Services LLC, a consulting, advisory, and educational services firm. She also co-leads the training academy for the National Defense Transportation Association. Pam was previously Director of Global Supply Chain Operations for Ciena Corporation, a telecommunications and network strategy company. For most of her career, Pam served in a range of roles for the DuPont Company as a leader for continuous improvement, project management, manufacturing, process safety, risk management, and training/development. She has worked in the pharmaceutical, chemicals, fluoroproducts and agricultural product lines at U.S.-based sites and globally.

Pam has also served as a longtime leader of ASCM/APICS, the association for supply chain management, as board director and as board representative for the Research, Innovation, and Strategy Committee. She is an APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional and a Six Sigma Black Belt. Pam’s other non-profit service includes a high school Project Lead the Way (STEM) board and chairing the Chemical Operators Industry Advisory Committee for Delaware Technical Community College. She also serves on the Services and Supply Chain Program Advisory Board for the Graves School of Business at Morgan State University and as an advisor to the Graves School of Business Consulting Club.

Pam holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh where she was active in the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). Pam also holds a master’s in project management from Morgan State University Graves School of Business.
